Day 45: to Buda, then to Pest

we spent the night in Visegrad, at the foot of this majestically fortified hill (mountain?) – tenting (with permission) in a closed-for-the-season campground administered by the hotel down the street.  Elsa made a lengthy (and tasty) bean and sausage soup.  the next morning we hopped the ferry back across to the left (North) bank and continued on to BudaPest.  (I think they should consider adopting mixed caps, don't you?)

Friday 7/11: Visegrad to Budapest (~62 km)

At first I thought this was signposting the slow-poke trail.  But indeed it seems to be saying: "watch out! after the rainstorm there will be snails on the road!"  Pretty adorable...

delightful pastry tea-time in Vac, where we spectacularly missed a ferry (back again to the right bank) due to a perfect storm of bad luck and poor judgment (on my part), and were so annoyed about it that we didn't even get to see the freakishly preserved dead people during the hour wait for the next one.  apparently I don't have any pictures from the cutesy-cute touristy town of Szentendre, which serves them right for not having any of their dang pretty churches be open.

instead, here's one of our first views of Budapest (coming in from the Buda=West side, on our way to stay with the phenomenal Marc and Julia, just across the Liberty bridge in Pest), for whose beauty I was quite unprepared (nor did I really capture it here):

  1. The pastries look great but I want the full story on the missed ferry/dead bodies and all!
